Dining Out
Sydney RestaurantsSydney's restaurant scene is truly international, reflecting an enormously rich and diverse range of cultures and cuisines - from Indian and Asian to Middle Eastern and Mediterranean, not forgetting Australia's very special seafood. Our beautiful harbour boasts many superb waterfront restaurants, while city high-rise towers provide the location for a number of stylish restaurants offering excellent cuisine and fabulous views. And of course, both Darling Harbour and The Rocks are renowned for their casual outdoors style eating establishments, where you can dine under big shady umbrellas while you watch the world pass by. Most restaurants in Sydney serve liquor, and most accept a wide variety of credit cards. Unlicensed establishments are happy for you to bring-your-own liquor and you will usually see the letters "BYO" after their names in the various guides. You will normally find a pub or a bottle shop near a BYO restaurant should you arrive unprepared.

You will almost certainly want to visit the Sydney Opera House while you're in Sydney and there's an interesting mix of cafes, bars and fine-dining restaurants to tempt your taste buds while you're there. Guillaume, the Opera House's flagship restaurant, won the Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide award for Best New Restaurant in 2003. There are a number of special packages which include either a tour of the complex and/or a performance coupled with a meal in one of the restaurants. Call the SOH Tourism Hotline on 9250 7250 for full details.
